Carabok IFN Stage 4 – Complete

Good morning, Arkadians.

Some good news. I have officially finished the IFN Stage 4 Carabok mission. All caraboks were swunted. All of them! All 5000 of them. I do not want to see a carabok for a while, I tell you! I don’t have the data to tell you cost, profit/loss or anything, only the overall statistics of the last 2487 kills.

Had it not been for Migration on Calypso and Lootius favouring those hunters my return would have been better. The worst return I’ve had so far was 39.85%. Usually its over 80%. If I were to make up for the loss in loot with sweat I’d have to collect nearly 6500 bottles. I might join a sweat circle for that.

I sold off some stored goods like ores, animal muscle oil and oil residue to some local traders to fund my next mission. Halix (young) IFN Stage 4. I’m required to kill 4800 halix. They are far fiercer than carabok and will require a different approach. First of all, I will not swunt them. Secondly, I will use a Piron PBP-0 (L) to tag them – if needed. I will also make use of a healing tool now and again to avoid resurrection at a nearby firebase. I will still use my trusted S.I Psy-Blade. I do love that powerfist.

Yesterday I headed to Courageous Firebase Academy with my gear and killed 129 halix young. It was a nice run in the snow – until I got wet. I decided to move south into the grass to dry up some.

It was a good hunt. Resurrected once and use the turrets once after being chased by older halix. Lootius must have smiled upon me because loot return was 137.03%, without MU. That’s really good. No globals though. They will come, I’m sure of it. My friend Lizzy can’t get them all.

Oh… I heard there is a bounty on Halix Skull. 1000 PED to whoever finds one. It would certainly help with future hunts, but alas, my luck sucks. I’ll just plod along for now.

I always wanted you to go into Space, Man.

A few days ago I set off on a new adventure. I was going to space – on my own accord. It literally freaked me out. The only other time I was in space I used the services of EFA. They offer safe trips on their mothership. But since I was going to temporarily join Kronan, another mothership, as an engineer I had to get up there on my own. I spent a few days preparing and asking questions about basically everything. Eventually I found the courage to go. I spawned my Sleipnir near Machinery Plant and ascended.

Rising.

THUMP!

The whole ship wobbled. WTF?! With my mad piloting skills, and obviously great selection of take-off spot, I’d managed to fly straight up into the belly of the planetside mothership. I believe my Sleipnir took some damage. Minimal though. After aligning my ship once more I continued the ascent. Space was looming.

As I broke the atmosphere a warning of pirating was announced. This is why I do not like space. Other colonists engage in pirating for fun. They shoot you down and if you carry certain items they loot you. Me and my mad skills cannot handle pirates. Besides, I got extreme motion sickness so everything was 10 times as hard to do. I had major issues steering. It all works differently up there too. Turning sideways planetside makes you rotate on the horizontal axis in space.
After much trial and error I managed to reach the opening of the Arkadia Space Station (Ark SS). There’s a distinct blue glow eminating from the entrance/exit. Then I had issues with the gate. It just wouldn’t open. Suddenly, I was sucked in while backing out.

Once on Kronan I purchased 8 repair tools and 200,000 welding wire. The other half of welding wire I already had. Thus began my repairing. My motion sickness never really left and it peaked whenever I went to or from the hangar. But it all went well. It took time to learn the layout of the ship but once I got a hang of it it went really well. One day I would like to travel from planet to planet on my own but I need this motion sickness to end first. For now I’ll just use my Sleipnir between SS and planet. But I have no plans of going anywhere for now. I skilled up to Vehicle Structural Engineer 10 and unlocked the Blueprint Comprehension skill, so now I’ll keep on swunting, crafting leather and work on Brawler Hit 20.

…and of course all the pictures I took was shit because I couldn’t focus properly. Damn this sickness!

Back on track with baby steps

Greetings, fellow colonists.

Today has been a productive day. I brushed off dirt and minor flora residue and polished the knee-pads on my IFN combat trousers, tidied up my ACA/AS Civilian shirt and cleared mud from my white Omegaton shoes. My glasses got a good rinse too. Blood, fur and feathers were removed from my powerfist for better performance. I also wiped off the VSE sweat tool for the first time since I got it. It was rather filthy! Once ready I braced myself and headed out into the wild.

Claws like razors. Intimidating large fur all over the place.
Tail long and slender, yet powerful like a whip.
Chance of survival? Limited.

Yup, I headed to one of the enclosed carabok areas within the secure environment of one of the D-name Firebase Academies. Dauntless? Dependable?! Can’t even remember. And no, it was not terrifying at all. They’re like large… ferocious… kittens.
It was a good session though. Very long. I extracted sweat and killed 157 carabok. Well over 6 hours work and it paid off! I walked away with items worth more than I spent on decay. Daily MU brought the theoretical profit up some more. …and this is without counting the value of sweat bottles. (Is Lootius back on Arkadia?!)

While working away on my carabok mission I realized two things.
1. I have only 1179 caraboks left to finish Stage 4.
2. Not sweating the remaining 10,000 carabok for Stage 5 would be a huge financial mistake!

10,0000 caraboks equals a total of 100,000 bottles of sweat. Each 1000 bottles are worth between 1.8o-2 PED. I usually sell for 2 PED. That’s a massive 200 PED! Sure, it will take ages to swunt 10,000 carabok. I could do a rough calculation but with my off-season closing in it will be pointless. I will stick to my small goals for now to avoid losing my mind (again).

Another thing that I will do in about 5 days time is join Kronan, the mothership, and do repairs. It’s the best and most cost efficient way to learn blueprint comprehension (a measly 150 PED). Right now I’m all over the place, and hopefully with better understanding of blueprints I can improve my crafting. Granny Rowan owns the ship so I will ask for passenger rights and then buy most if not all materials from her and her crew. I was impatient enough and bid on welding wire on the auction. Now I have to wait until I either win or get outbid.

Gotta love intuition when it works

Intuition has never really worked for me. I pick a mob to swunt or hunt and more often than not I make a loss. Not a big one, but still a loss. Sometimes I make a loss on TT value but make a small profit when adding Mark-up on items, so I’m usually not complaining. Swunting gallards have for the most part proven to be one of the better mobs to go after – until recently. The last 4 hunts resulted in a massive loss even though I didn’t change my approach at all. I sweat them and then kill them with my S.I Psy-blade. Yet my return was 60% TT on average and roughly 70% with MU. So I got irritated and went on a monura male killing spree. That mob has almost always meant a profit one way or another. I killed 227 of them bugs. What did I get for it? 66% TT value returned. 71% with MU. That is so not cool.

So what to do?

Swunting and hunting was out of the question. What else is there for me to do? Crafting, mining and selling items. Mining is a major gamble to me. I know too little to actually make something of it. Selling my items is something I’d like to do but I have so little patience for standing still shouting out my offers in hopes that someone want what I have. So for some odd reason I chose to craft – without any Blueprint Comprehension whatsoever.

I did improve my skills and my blueprint though. But no globals.

Yesterday I took my gear and headed to Courageous Firebase Academy. It’s cold as crap up north in the snow but I managed. The rage I felt when constantly being hit by caraboks kept me warm. I still killed 117 of them using my trusted S.I Psy-Blade. What did I get for the trouble? 59 bloody percent TT value. Nearly 63% adding MU.

So I have stopped hunting – for now.

That leaves me with one more thing to work on. Selling my items. I may not have the patience to stand around and shout out my offers but I almost always pay attention to the official trade communications channel while mob killing.
Yesterday I decided to be more pro-active. I had a look at auction offers to get an idea of what sells and what doesn’t, and came across the blueprint section. I have plenty of blueprints, some of them with limited use, and the majority have some MU to consider. So I started shouting. …and shouting…and shouting. No interest whatsoever. I even contacted a person that I noticed was bidding on a blueprint in hopes s/he would be interested in mine too. No response. So I gave up after hours of trying. I sorted out my stuff, had a last look through my storage inventory and called it night.

But then I got that feeling… The one that tells you you should try one more time. It rarely happens but it did. So I connected to the trade channel again to try sell my blueprints. Instead I found a buyer of animal oil residue at 101% MU. Small profit but still a profit. So I contacted the buyer and said I had 15000 units, thinking s/he would buy a small amount. The buyer wanted them all. I was shocked. Then I had a look at the actual value of my stock and was baffled. 150,5 PED. I had no idea. The stuff has been in my storage for so long I forgot about its value. Sure, the profit was only 50 PEC, but it was a massive sale to me. Now I just need to keep up my sales activity and not go on a spending spree.

Long time no see

Well… this is… unusual. I knew I’ve been away from writing for a while, but I had no idea it’s been this long. 7 months. Definitely a record! Sorry to say nothing interesting has happened during that time. Nothing! I’ve killed a few hundred gallards on and off, and I participated in the Gold event and killed a handful of Magurg Breeder 1’s. But that’s been it. I haven’t felt like doing anything. Life is quite boring having to keep an eye on every single pec. But I cannot stop. I just have to keep up with my regime. Can’t abandon it now. But having made the vow to swunt ALL remaining Gallards and Caraboks – and we’re talking roughly 12000-13000 of each – I’d almost want to kill myself. And what’s worse – the final mission rewards are improved evade. I need to be better at evading attacks. But I honestly don’t think I can take swunting so many more creatures.

These past few days I’ve been looking into resource gathering some more. I’m not good at it but I have learned how to handle the first 3 Terratech-PH tools. Now I’m thinking of making it my secondary profession. Harvesting wood and possibly even crafting composite planks. There’s a decent return on harvesting, though just below breaking even. So far it has proven to be more stable than swunting. Gallards have cost more to kill these past 2 days that I’m wondering if I should just leave them alone for now. 50-70% return is shit, in my opinion!

As for my financial status… still so much crap in my inventory to sell. I seriously need to amend that. I did make two sales today. Stones and shrapnel. Pocket money, but still. Christmas is coming up and I have something holiday related to get rid of. A coat and mittens. Maybe someone else would like those. I think I have one of those stupid holiday hats too. Unless I sold it. Can’t remember.

Either way, I’ll try my best to not go MIA again. I do want to evolve. Things have been stagnant for far too long.

Feran IFN stage 1 – done

That was that, the IFN stage 1 – kill 75 feran. It wasn’t difficult at all, except for figuring out what firearms to use. I had a total of 56 remaining to kill and I split them into short sessions to gather basic info on kill cost. I used Piron PBP-0 (L) and a Piron PBP-2 (L).

Piron PBP-0 (L): Handgun. Required between 15 to 20 shots. Average damaged was between 2 and 3. It burns 84 BLP shells per shot. It has a range of 35.2 meters. It consumed 14532  shells on 10 feran. The total kill cost reached 0.16732 PED.
Piron PBP-2 (L): Handgun. Required between 14 and 19 shots. Average damage was around 4. It burns 116 BLP shells per shot. It has a range of 33 meters. It consumed 16124 shells on 10 feran. The total kill cost reached 0.16724 PED.

WTF?! I’ll admit I just looked at the total overall cost yesterday and it dropped from roughly 0.20 PED to 0.178 PED. I didn’t look at it this closely. So basically the guns are very very similar. I drew one conclusion though and that is some firearms have a low ammo rate and high weapon decay rate, and others are the total opposite. The way I go about things I’d prefer high ammo rate and low weapon decay rate. Why? Cause the gun/rifle will last longer and it’s fairly easy to stock up on shrapnel while killing caraboks, gallard and other small creatures. I do need to look into Piron PBR-0 (L) too. There have been occasions where a feran got out of range and I lost the upper hand for a brief moment. A rifle has better range, and this one has a range of 65 meters.

Well, I figured that I can use my stockpile of firearms on arkadia hornet and feran in between carabok/gallard/halix/ostelok hunting. Loot return on feran is currently quite bad so I will not go on long hunting sessions. Oh, there is this saying in Entropia:

“Just because you can hunt something doesn’t mean you should”.

There is another good saying that goes…

“Every PEC counts”.

So true, so true. So right now I’m swunting gallard. I’ve had two drops of hair gel and stuff. …and I just noticed that I didn’t empty my backpack after the feran run. Please! Someone slap me senseless! I need to sort this before I continue. In the meantime… Scenery photo.

Sometimes I wonder if there’s a reason for things that happen or if everything are just coincidences. Take yesterday for example. Having finished my ostelok mission I was looking through storage with stuff to find things to sell. I picket some hand guns, polished them and started advertising them along with shrapnel. 20 PED worth of shrapnel sold – not the guns. While advertising I was checking the auction for things to sell but couldn’t quite commit to anything. I looked at the list of orders for the first time since forever and something on that list caught my eye. A crafted item that I can actually make. I’m a shitty crafter but I can make Item X. Gathering mats is a different matter. Material Y is not something I find on my regular low mobs. I was pondering buying cheap, craft Item X and sell for maximum order MU.

BUT… I have no records of making this item, so I don’t know what success rate I have. Looking at some other stuff I have made in the past I had a total success rate of 20%. That’s shit! Then again, I’m a newbie with crafting.
Either way, I held off buying anything. I want to be more sure of what I’m doing first. So today, after selling some minor stuff to Arkadia’s Mr Crafter Kikki Jikki, I went on a minor mining run just for kicks. I didn’t expect anything and didn’t find much. Just some melchi water, hydrogen steam and a small rock… ignisium, I think. Here’s the interesting part… while out in the bush, so to speak (it was actually the hillside of a valley in what felt like the middle of nowhere), I noticed flying beasts in the distance. Pink hue, no feathers, sharp claws. I moved closer to them somewhat hunched down and found a spot to observe them. They are called Feran according to the local records. And I can kill them! The youngs have a reasonable low health not much greater than Halix. As I was looking through the data I came across something in the loot list. Material Y used to craft Item X… in that list of orders… So theoretically, I can now hunt for all materials, craft Item X and sell. I did NOT see that coming, at all!

Question was, how do I kill Feran?! I assumed my power fist was out of the question so I pulled out one of my (many) Piron PBR-0 (L) for range and a Piron PBP-0 (L) for closer range. But it didn’t stop me from trying out my power fist twice. It worked once, but that was it. So fire arms it is – just like Arkadia Hornet.

I killed 19 of them and it went pretty well. They hit harder than other mobs so I may have to use healing tools once or twice. Currently, the kill cost of these things are 0.20 PEC per animal. It will adjust itself over time as I keep killing. It was one of those lucky first times with profit of about 101% and around 104-105% +MU.
Their hides look pretty nice too. I wonder if it would go well on my sleipnir.

Ostelok Stage 3 – done

So I set a goal earlier this month, to reach Brawler (Hit) 20. I also set a goal to finish stage 2 and stage 3 before the end of the month. I managed the last two goals, not the first one. I should have known before even starting that it would be impossible. It took me roughly 11 months of sporadic hunting/swunting to reach Brawler (Hit) 16 so naturally it shouldn’t be possible to get 4 profession ranks in one month. But it’s fine. Gives me a goal for next year!

I also went ahead and bought myself a holiday coat. Cost me 14.92 PED – a whole lot cheaper than one I saw on the auction for over 40 PED! The only issue is it doesn’t go well with my ACA/AS Civilian trousers. I had to switch to my plain old Carapace trousers. One day I would like to own something much cooler. I believe the Lahbiba coat is what I’d like. It can be customized. Not sure what colours and/or textures I’d like. It’s something to ponder when I go back to swunting carabok.

By the way, the picture is quite funny. As I was hitting one ostelok another drowned in the shallow water just south of my position. Hilarious. Long legs yet they drown. I hereby name you John Little!

 

The Holidays!

Yup. The Holidays have come to Arkadia (and the rest of Entropia, for sure). Last year we were given a green holiday hat and trading cards among things. This year everyone got a new (green) holiday hat, a mug for those with apartments and/or shops, and a Christmas Bokol plushie for those who “improve the economy”. Since I only exist without much effort or home I got the hat only. But some kind soul (who I unfortunately forgot the name of) gave her plushie to me. I love plushies. I now have 1 bokol, 2 Santa Swamp Lurkers, 1 ostelok and about 3 black smuggler plushies. I think that’s it. I so need a home to put them in.
I also caught a pair of mittens on the auction. Red ones. Very cute. I also saw a matching holiday coat, but it was way too pricey for my taste, or else I’d bought it (to match the mittens). Instead, I put on the ridiculous green tree-like hat and went ostelok hunting.

Unlike yesterday I had very good returns. Profit even! I found another Piron PBP-2 (L) in an ostelok carcass with a value of 2.10 PED. Add mark-up and it is worth over 3 PED. Overall it is all a loss, but they are acceptable losses. Skillwise I’m improving. Slowly. My S.I Psy-blade increased its tier to 2.3. It’s been a long time since I noticed any difference in tiers. I will upgrade it when the time comes even though I heard enhancers are a waste. Maybe in the future things will change. Who knows. Would be a shame to have all tier slots locked if there was a reason to use them. Personally, I wish for some of the arms dealers and producers to release power fists other than the basic TT version on Arkadia. There are plenty from Calypso, but that’s just that – they come from Calypso. I really do not want to import weapons from that planet. I’m not particularly fond of Calypso and would rather support Arkadian style weapons.
…and I know I’m throwing out double-standards here. The S.I Psy-blade originally comes from Cyrene. It was the most eco, low damage power fist up until mid 2014 or so. Then all TT weapons went through a change by the manufacturers to provide same type of weapons with same stats but from different makers. That meant some weapons were discontinued. They are still available but only between people. I inherited mine from a “relative”. Sometimes I wish I had inherited more.

Anyway. My ostelok stage 3 is almost over. I have roughly 400 more birds to kill. That’s an average of 3 sessions left. So far I’ve killed the equivalent of 1500 kill points, which is roughly 150 birds per session. Today I managed more than 1800 points. For stage 4 I will try higher maturities. But before that I need to do something else after stage 3. I’m going bonkers!
