Carabok IFN Stage 4 – Complete

Good morning, Arkadians.

Some good news. I have officially finished the IFN Stage 4 Carabok mission. All caraboks were swunted. All of them! All 5000 of them. I do not want to see a carabok for a while, I tell you! I don’t have the data to tell you cost, profit/loss or anything, only the overall statistics of the last 2487 kills.

Decay: 103.0100 PED
Loot -MU: 88.0117 PED
Loot +MU: 108.4028 PED
Return -MU %: 85.44 PED

Had it not been for Migration on Calypso and Lootius favouring those hunters my return would have been better. The worst return I’ve had so far was 39.85%. Usually its over 80%. If I were to make up for the loss in loot with sweat I’d have to collect nearly 6500 bottles. I might join a sweat circle for that.

I sold off some stored goods like ores, animal muscle oil and oil residue to some local traders to fund my next mission. Halix (young) IFN Stage 4. I’m required to kill 4800 halix. They are far fiercer than carabok and will require a different approach. First of all, I will not swunt them. Secondly, I will use a Piron PBP-0 (L) to tag them – if needed. I will also make use of a healing tool now and again to avoid resurrection at a nearby firebase. I will still use my trusted S.I Psy-Blade. I do love that powerfist.

Yesterday I headed to Courageous Firebase Academy with my gear and killed 129 halix young. It was a nice run in the snow – until I got wet. I decided to move south into the grass to dry up some.

It was a good hunt. Resurrected once and use the turrets once after being chased by older halix. Lootius must have smiled upon me because loot return was 137.03%, without MU. That’s really good. No globals though. They will come, I’m sure of it. My friend Lizzy can’t get them all.

Oh… I heard there is a bounty on Halix Skull. 1000 PED to whoever finds one. It would certainly help with future hunts, but alas, my luck sucks. I’ll just plod along for now.

July 2016 conclusion

July is over. These are the results.

Animals/Mobs killed:  Arkadia Hornet, Carabok, Gallard, Monura Male
Weapons used: Piron PBP-0 (L), S.I Psy-Blade
Total kills:  1960
Ammo used: 161112
Ammo cost:  16.11
Repairs:  73.82
Decay:  81.70
Loot:  62.59
Global (PED):  0
Sweat collected: 16765
Sweat sold: 10000
Income:  362.40
Expenses:  334.06
Funds at end: 364.03
Loot return %:  63.99

An absolutely crappy month. Loot has never been as bad as this month. It seems Lootius has favoured the Migration participants on Calypso. Migration should be over within 1-2 months though.

Expenses refers to anything but repairs.
Income refers to anything but selling sweat.
Loot includes globals.

Back on track with baby steps

Greetings, fellow colonists.

Today has been a productive day. I brushed off dirt and minor flora residue and polished the knee-pads on my IFN combat trousers, tidied up my ACA/AS Civilian shirt and cleared mud from my white Omegaton shoes. My glasses got a good rinse too. Blood, fur and feathers were removed from my powerfist for better performance. I also wiped off the VSE sweat tool for the first time since I got it. It was rather filthy! Once ready I braced myself and headed out into the wild.

Beasts, large as small huts, with fangs that could easily tear a person to pieces with a simple bite.
Claws like razors. Intimidating large fur all over the place.
Tail long and slender, yet powerful like a whip.
Chance of survival? Limited.

Yup, I headed to one of the enclosed carabok areas within the secure environment of one of the D-name Firebase Academies. Dauntless? Dependable?! Can’t even remember. And no, it was not terrifying at all. They’re like large… ferocious… kittens.
It was a good session though. Very long. I extracted sweat and killed 157 carabok. Well over 6 hours work and it paid off! I walked away with items worth more than I spent on decay. Daily MU brought the theoretical profit up some more. …and this is without counting the value of sweat bottles. (Is Lootius back on Arkadia?!)

While working away on my carabok mission I realized two things.
1. I have only 1179 caraboks left to finish Stage 4.
2. Not sweating the remaining 10,000 carabok for Stage 5 would be a huge financial mistake!

10,0000 caraboks equals a total of 100,000 bottles of sweat. Each 1000 bottles are worth between 1.8o-2 PED. I usually sell for 2 PED. That’s a massive 200 PED! Sure, it will take ages to swunt 10,000 carabok. I could do a rough calculation but with my off-season closing in it will be pointless. I will stick to my small goals for now to avoid losing my mind (again).

Another thing that I will do in about 5 days time is join Kronan, the mothership, and do repairs. It’s the best and most cost efficient way to learn blueprint comprehension (a measly 150 PED). Right now I’m all over the place, and hopefully with better understanding of blueprints I can improve my crafting. Granny Rowan owns the ship so I will ask for passenger rights and then buy most if not all materials from her and her crew. I was impatient enough and bid on welding wire on the auction. Now I have to wait until I either win or get outbid.

I see a carabok trophy on the horizon…

Gotta love intuition when it works

Intuition has never really worked for me. I pick a mob to swunt or hunt and more often than not I make a loss. Not a big one, but still a loss. Sometimes I make a loss on TT value but make a small profit when adding Mark-up on items, so I’m usually not complaining. Swunting gallards have for the most part proven to be one of the better mobs to go after – until recently. The last 4 hunts resulted in a massive loss even though I didn’t change my approach at all. I sweat them and then kill them with my S.I Psy-blade. Yet my return was 60% TT on average and roughly 70% with MU. So I got irritated and went on a monura male killing spree. That mob has almost always meant a profit one way or another. I killed 227 of them bugs. What did I get for it? 66% TT value returned. 71% with MU. That is so not cool.

So what to do?

Swunting and hunting was out of the question. What else is there for me to do? Crafting, mining and selling items. Mining is a major gamble to me. I know too little to actually make something of it. Selling my items is something I’d like to do but I have so little patience for standing still shouting out my offers in hopes that someone want what I have. So for some odd reason I chose to craft – without any Blueprint Comprehension whatsoever.

40 PED worth of nano cubes and I started crafting explosive projectiles. 2000 clicks minimum…
Lots of people got E.P globals. Some as high as 4 digit return.

Did I get any global? No…
I did improve my skills and my blueprint though. But no globals.

Yesterday I took my gear and headed to Courageous Firebase Academy. It’s cold as crap up north in the snow but I managed. The rage I felt when constantly being hit by caraboks kept me warm. I still killed 117 of them using my trusted S.I Psy-Blade. What did I get for the trouble? 59 bloody percent TT value. Nearly 63% adding MU.

FUCK ME!

So I have stopped hunting – for now.

That leaves me with one more thing to work on. Selling my items. I may not have the patience to stand around and shout out my offers but I almost always pay attention to the official trade communications channel while mob killing.
Yesterday I decided to be more pro-active. I had a look at auction offers to get an idea of what sells and what doesn’t, and came across the blueprint section. I have plenty of blueprints, some of them with limited use, and the majority have some MU to consider. So I started shouting. …and shouting…and shouting. No interest whatsoever. I even contacted a person that I noticed was bidding on a blueprint in hopes s/he would be interested in mine too. No response. So I gave up after hours of trying. I sorted out my stuff, had a last look through my storage inventory and called it night.

But then I got that feeling… The one that tells you you should try one more time. It rarely happens but it did. So I connected to the trade channel again to try sell my blueprints. Instead I found a buyer of animal oil residue at 101% MU. Small profit but still a profit. So I contacted the buyer and said I had 15000 units, thinking s/he would buy a small amount. The buyer wanted them all. I was shocked. Then I had a look at the actual value of my stock and was baffled. 150,5 PED. I had no idea. The stuff has been in my storage for so long I forgot about its value. Sure, the profit was only 50 PEC, but it was a massive sale to me. Now I just need to keep up my sales activity and not go on a spending spree.

Not as passive as it may seem

Didn’t realize I haven’t posted in almost a month. Well, not much to post. When I have been active I’ve only hunted Oratan Prospector Thieves and done some resource gathering. One of the thieves held a global of 10 PED, but it was still an over all loss. I’m not going to hunt any thieves this month.

What I have done though is get a sneak peek at someone’s statistics and how they keep track of their hunting on all planets. So… I applied some of it to my own statistics and have begun to keep track of each and every mob more closely. The data is automatically calculated into two different tables for better overview. One table displays over all data for each Arkadian mob (haven’t hunted on any other planet since I started the new tracking system) and the other table displays the total data for each planet (again, only Arkadia).
So far I’ve added data from Oratan Prospector Thieves, Arkadian Hornet, Gallard and Carabok. I have Jori and Monura Male/Female left. These are the mobs I can hunt with ease.

I hunted Arkadian Hornet yesterday and today. They have been horrible in terms of loot in the past. They were yesterday too – up until the very last hornet that dropped enough stuff to make me profit by 2.59 PED (without MU; 4.77 with MU). Today that profit was lost. Well, not all of it but I did lose. I finished Mission Stage 2 and decided to never hunt hornets again. Then again, I said that a few months ago and look where I’m at…

Sales have been okay I guess. I caved and put some stuff on auction for reasonable MU and the majority sold. Not sure what to do with the Socket I Components. They just won’t sell. I have more than 50 PED in TT value.
Speaking of trades. I bought a Terratech PH-3 a while back. I haven’t used it because I’m not skilled enough yet. I also just found 4(!!) Terratech PH-2 on auction. I bought 1 of them, so now when I’m out looking for trees to harvest I can theoretically get all three types of moonleaf boards. I will only use the PH-2 and PH-3 on medium and large trees. Anything else would be uneco!

Time to try out this new tool!

A 12 PED Carabok global

Sweet! I was swunting some carabok today while pondering my latest hunt. I failed to take proper note of my activities and now I have 0.20 PED more than I should have. I have no idea where those come from. So while I was allowing myself to become annoyed for silly reasons (I have more money than expected) a carabok dropped a Headshot I (L) worth 8.79 PED and roughly 3.21 PED worth of shrapnel.
It’s extremely fun for two reasons. 1, Carabok rarely give globals. 2, I got a weapon related item that I have never gotten before. AND it hadn’t been recorded on the local publishing board.

I’ve put it up for sale on my list of items. The current MU is around 170%. Not bad.

It’s a scope you attach to rifles and perhaps even handguns. I have never used one because what I hunt are not dangerous enough to require long distance to avoid. Let’s hope someone wants it. I could use the money for future hunts.

June conclusion

June has ended and July has started. Time to take note of the monthly events.

Animals/Mobs killed:  Monura M/F, Oratan P. Thief, Gallard, Arkadia Hornet, Carabok, Halix
Weapons used:  S.I Psy-Blade, S.I Psy-Sword, S.I Combat Knife, Piron PBP-0 (L), Piron PBR-0 (L)
Total kills:  9947
Ammo used:  168,957
Ammo cost:  16.90
Repairs:  505.76
Decay:  518.69

Sweat sold: 0
Income:  225.39
Expenses:  82.70
Funds at end:  295.54
Loot return %:  94.091

Seeing how loot return is key it was a pretty good month. It was the third best month according to my (un-published) records.

Carabok mission #4 – 1700+

Swunting Carabok is sooo utterly boring. But I made a commitment a long time ago to make the most of these animals. Extracting sweat before killing them generates 10 bottles. The current average rate is around 1.8-2 PED per 1000 bottles. I charge 2 PED for a thousand. Added to whatever loot I get I will profit. The average kill cost of a Carabok is 0.041 PED.

So I swunt. Besides, Evade is one of those invaluable skills a hunter should be proficient in, and to train that a hunter has to take a beating.

But that doesn’t stop me from almost going mental swunting these fu…critters.
swunting carabok

Extraction of sweat from a Carabok

For a brief moment I thought I should test a new weapon on them. The S.I Psy-Sword. But after having a look at their max damage I decided not to. A Carabok has 10HP. A S.I Psy-Sword can do 8 maximum damage. Worse case scenario a hunter does 2×8 hits and deals an overkill of 6 points. That’s money thrown to the wind!
So no, I will not use that weapon on Carabok. It might work on Gallard. Those turkeys have 15 HP. With any luck they die after 2-3 hits.

Anyway. Carabok. Swunting. I’m currently at Dauntless Firebase Academy. There’s 5 available and I’m all alone. I like it that way. No animal hoggers. At this very moment I’m profiting. 120% return so far. 58 killed, 2.41 PED decay, 2.91 PED loot found, 580 bottles of sweat.

Let’s hope the numbers remain positive.
